Highland's 20 parks provide plenty of opportunities for fun and exercise.

Highland has been home to many contented residents since 1847, when Michael and Judith Johnson from Ohio first settled here. Legend says that their son, Rod, harvested a flock of ducks which had frozen in the Little Calumet River. With the proceeds from their sale, he was able to purchase 20 acres of land. In 1883, railroad surveyors from the Chicago & Atlantic Railroad nicknamed this sand ridge the "Highlands." Eventually the name stuck, as Dutch farmers and more settlers moved in to take advantage of the town's location and railroad access. The town grew substantially during the 1950s and 1960s as residents sought to escape the drudgeries of life in nearby industrial cities, but managed to retain its small town charm and ambiance.

At Prairie Square, we take pride in providing our residents with a community in a setting and location that you will be proud to call home! We took care in designing these dwelling units to insure your comfort, and manage them efficiently and professionally so that all you have to do is relax and enjoy yourself.
